Candlelight vigil in front of the US Consulate to oppose American intervention
in the Philippines via the Martial Law imposition in Mindanao on Philippine-US “Friendship Day”
A Candlelight Vigil will be held in front of the US Consulate in Montreal to highlight the continuing conflict in the City of Marawi in Mindanao between Philippine troops and terrorist organizations Abu Sayaff and Maute group claiming loyalty to ISIL. Organizers are using this July 4th, celebrated in the Philippines as Philippine-US Friendship Day, as an opportunity to expose the US hand in the conflict through its use of the Philippine Military and its historical role in creating the terrorists organizations as tools for counter-insurgency on the Island of Mindanao. The US government having shown concern over Philippine President Duterte’s plan to realign Philippines through its foreign policy with Russia and China has everything to gain through the imposition of Martial Law that is being administered by the Philippine military know for its pro-American position. Since the declaration of Martial law on the whole Island of Mindanaw over 200, 000 residents of Marawi have bbeen displaced, dozens of civilians have died and the infrastructures and homes in the city of Marawi have been leveled y government aerial bombardment.
