Attention News Editors For immediate release Black activists call on mayoral candidates to act on anti-Black racism in Quebec following police killing of Jean-Pierre Bony In the wake of the death of Jean-Pierre Bony, an un-armed Black man shot in the head at close range with a rubber bullet by the Montreal Police, a new Black-led activist group, Montréal Noir, has been formed to call for an end to systemic anti-Black racism in Quebec. Montreal Noir and Montréal-Nord Républik have prepared five recommendations necessary to combat the policing profiling and violence currently faced by Black communities in Montreal, as well as the high rates of poverty that we face. We are publicly calling on the mayoral candidates to commit to these changes, and await their response. The recommendations will be announced at the press conference and then deposited at the mayoral office.
