DEMONSTRATION IN SOLIDARITY WITH DELI SOKOLOW EMPLOYEES
What: Demonstration in support of former workers of the Deli Sokolow
When: Sunday, March 5, 2017
Where: Metro Place Saint Henri
Montreal, March 3, 2017–Montrealers will be taking to the streets this Sunday to support former Deli Sokolow employees in their struggle to recover their stolen wages.
Over the year and a half that the Deli Sokolow was in business, its owners frequently paid wages late, denied employees annual leave pay, issued bounced cheques, and failed to issue Records of Employment. On November 21, 2016, the restaurant abruptly closed its doors without notifying employees, or paying them the $7,100 they were collectively owed. More than one month after sending a letter of demands, employees have yet to receive transparent communication from their former employers, or payment of the wages they are owed.
Protestors will gather at Metro Place Saint Henri, before marching through the neighborhood to denounce wage theft and worker exploitation everywhere. Media interviews with committee members will be available on-site.
