Montreal Resist Trump Network protests against Trump-Trudeau Meeting Today
Community members denounce the far-right policies of Trump as well as Trudeau’s complicity and declare: "Make Racists Afraid Again!"
MONTREAL, February 13th, 2017 — The Montreal Resist Trump and the Far-Right Network is organizing a protest today to oppose Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Washington meeting with Donald Trump. The Montreal-area network, formed in the days after the November US Election, is organizing today's protest in solidarity with allies on both sides of the US-Canada border. The Resist Trump and the Far Right Network also supports other community groups in their planned disruption of Kevin O’Leary’s scheduled appearance at McGill University.

In the words of Nicole LeBlanc, a member of the Resist Trump and the Far-Right Network: "Beyond his toxic personality, Donald Trump represents ableist, misogynist, racist, homophobic, transphobic, and anti-immigrant politics. By meeting with him, Justin Trudeau demonstrates his openness to these hateful and dangerous far-right ideas. Both are, in different ways, complicit in the rise of right-wing extremism, and must be actively resisted and disrupted."
Eamon Toohey, a US resident living in Montreal, and also a member of the Resist Trump and the Far-Right Network, adds: "We cannot stand idly by while Kevin O’Leary positions himself to become the Canadian Trump. Unless we resist, it can and will happen here. Trudeau has been complicit in laying the groundwork for this to pass since his election."
The Resist Trump and the Far-Right Network is also making links to struggles against far-right, racist ideas in Quebec and Canada. According to Anas Bouslikhane, "We also oppose the manifestations of racism and Islamophobia here in Quebec, such as the recent violent attacks on Muslims in both Montreal and Quebec City. We condemn the role Canada plays in the endangering of refugees, and call for cross-border alliances, from the US-Canada border to the US-Mexico border, as well as an immediate withdrawal from the Safe Third Country Agreement."
