———-

Montreal, August 9, 2016 — On the initiative of Bridget Tolley – whose mother Gladys, killed by an SQ car in 2001, would have been 76 years-old today — the Justice for the Victims of Police Killing Coalition is organizing a press conference to denounce police impunity and violence, before the 8th commemorative vigil for Fredy Villanueva.

Speakers will be addressing their memories of their loved ones, as well as denouncing police impunity and brutality. Members of the Justice for Victims of Police Killings Coalition will share their public critique of the new Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes (BEI), a department dominated by ex-police. Moreover, both Bridget Tolley and Dominique Bernier – mother of 17 year-old Brandon Maurice, killed in November 2015 by SQ – will share their similar accounts of unfair police investigations regarding SQ police killings in Maniwaki. Both Tolley and Bernier were denied access to the bodies of their loved ones, for example.

About the Justice for the Victims of Police Killings Coalition:
The Justice for the Victims of Police Killings Coalition currently involves the family members and friends of Anas Bennis, Claudio Castagnetta, Ben Matson, Brandon Maurice, Jean-François Nadreau, Quilem Registre, Gladys Tolley and Fredy Villanueva, all of whom died as a direct result of police actions and interventions. We continue to reach out to family and friends of other victims of police killings.
